Max Verstappen raced to his 12th victory at the soaking wet Suzuka last week and, due to Charles Leclerc's time penalty there, could already call himself double World Champion. But that does not end the excitement for the remaining four races. What remains to be gained?

For starters, there is still the battle for second place in the championship. Only one point is Sergio Perez ahead of Leclerc, 253 to 252 points. Even George Russell and Carlos Sainz may not be written off for second and third place. It will be a bit trickier for them though, they are some 50 points behind the current numbers two and three with 207 and 202 points respectively.

Red Bull could become constructors' champion

Besides the championship battle among drivers, things are still exciting among constructors. Not when it comes to winning the championship: Red Bull Racing can cash in on this title in Austin next weekend and if it fails to do so, it seems only a matter of time. Ferrari, with 454 points, is locked in a battle with Mercedes for second place. Although Mercedes has yet to pick up a win this season, the drivers are very consistent, picking up plenty of points race after race and have scored 387 points so far.

The record shared by Vettel and Schumacher

Finally, several records could also be broken, which of course is partly due to the ever-lengthening calendar and the introduction of sprint races where points are also distributed. Verstappen can break the first record, namely the 'most wins in one season' which is shared by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. As many as 13 wins both managed to achieve in one season. Verstappen currently stands at 12 and with four races to go and the blood shape he is in, it seems almost certain that the record will be broken.

Point records off the books

Leclerc is lightning fast on Saturday, having already captured nine pole positions. Schumacher captured 11 poles in a single season in 2001 and that number has not been reached since. Leclerc seems to have all the papers to run this 21-year-old record out of the books.

With four races and a sprint race to go, there are still plenty of points to share out, allowing Verstappen to break Lewis Hamilton's s record. The seven-time World Champion drove a whopping 413 points in 2019. Verstappen now stands on 366.

In addition, Red Bull Racing can also break a points record and that of Mercedes from 2016. No less than 765 points were scored by the British team. It is no easy task: Christian Horner's team will then have to cash in on a first and second place in all races.

Should Red Bull share an award?

At the end of the year, a number of awards will be handed out. These include the DHL Fastest Pitstop Award. Red Bull Racing leads with eight times the fastest pitstop. They can no longer be overtaken. However, they may be allowed to share the title with McLaren at the end of the year. McLaren has made four fastest pitstops this season and with four more they would be level with Red Bull Racing. The latter will be itching to win the award, having taken the pit stop in Formula 1 to a new level and been given the award every year since 2018.

Plenty of exciting stuff to be on the edge of your seat for over the last four races this season.
