Horner thinks FIA made a mistake with points distribution

After the Japan Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner speaks of a mistake. The Briton was completely under the impression that Max Verstappen would be one point short of becoming champion, but this was not the case as full points were handed out.

The finish of the race created quite a bit of confusion among drivers, teams, journalists and fans. Because only 28 of the 53 laps had been completed, it was thought that no full points were handed out. It is now clear why this was done.

Horner said in a conversation with Autosport.com that it was a mistake. The new rules were instituted after the debacle that occurred at Spa-Francorchamps in 2021. For a long time, Red Bull was under the impression that Verstappen would be one point short at the flag.

Perez took care of the title

Because the race had been stopped for a long time, the drivers were only able to cover just over 50 per cent of the total distance. Horner admitted that he thought the full points were only handed out at 75 per cent. Sergio Perez's move ensured that Charles Leclerc received a penalty and Verstappen ended up being champion in Japan after all.
