Raymond Vermeulen is incredibly proud of Max Verstappen's two world titles. The Dutchman crossed the finish line first in a wet Suzuka Grand Prix. Verstappen's manager believes the 25-year-old driver was of an outside category today.

It was initially unclear whether or not Verstappen had won the world title at Suzuka. Due to the delay in the wet weather conditions, the race was actually only 50-75 per cent run, which meant fewer points would be handed out. However, it emerged afterwards that the FIA had given the full points as the race did complete under the official finish flag.

"It took a while. We were at the podium, but it was actually very unclear exactly what it was. I asked a team: where are we now. They weren't quite sure either, but the screen said world champion 2022. A bit of a strange denouement, but eventually it was coming. Heartening that it's happening here," Verstappen's manager told Viaplay.

'Think Verstappen still has a lot up his sleeve'

The Red Bull Racing driver crossed the finish line on the wet track in Suzuka with a big lead. It is a big contrast to the race in Singapore, where Verstappen finished only seventh. The Dutchman showed again in Japan how good he is in the rain.

"He was of the outside category. What he does in the rain, you saw it in the lap times against Charles and Checo, he was of the outside category today," Vermeulen continued. "I am incredibly proud. I think we should all be proud to have such a talent in our midst. I hope we will see a lot more. I think he still has a lot in him to do a lot of great things," the Dutchman said.
