Liberty Media plans to take action and make tickets to the Las Vegas Grand Prix affordable for a large part of the (younger) public. This appears to be a response to the announcement made by US hotel boss William Hornbuckle.

Indeed, Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts International, indicated in the summer that his organisation wants to buy as much as $20-25 million worth of tickets. The intention is to offer those tickets in combination with a hotel stay. The most striking thing about this news was the price for such a combination ticket, the most expensive package of which could reach $100,000 per ticket.

Liberty Media intervenes at Las Vegas GP

The outrage among the F1 public is understandable, for the average motorsport fan, that amount of money is unaffordable. Even the cheaper packages will not be able to be bought by this average fan. In fact, tickets for the new US Grand Prix are expected to cost three times as much as normal. Liberty Media is therefore intervening and plans to offer 'affordable' tickets as well.

Sports Business Journal writes that Liberty Media wants to make available a general ticket that is affordable for the young attendee and gives you as a visitor the feeling of a viewing party. CEO Renee Wilm says these tickets will go on sale early next year. She did not yet give the exact price of the tickets and said, “We also are looking to program the hospitality in such a way where we are appealing to our legacy fans but while also creating these new opportunities for the new fans.”
