It was a remarkable moment after the Italian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen took the floor to give a short initial reaction to his victory at the Monza circuit, but the home fans in attendance greeted Verstappen's words with loud boos and whistles. Mattia Binotto believes that 'his' fans were more targeting the FIA than Verstappen.

Charles Leclerc was denied a chance at victory when there was no restart after the safety car caused by Daniel Ricciardo. Binotto himself was also quite critical of the actions of the race committee. He understands the emotion of the tifosi, but he disapproves of the behaviour.

Verstappen deserved to win

"Booing a driver is never great. Max was the fastest driver on track and deserved the win, so that (the boos) was not good," the Ferrari team boss is quoted by Reuters. Verstappen himself said that if it had come to a one-lap shoot-out he would probably have been able to hold off Leclerc on his new softs without too much trouble.

Binotto: "I think the booing from our tifosi (fans) was more toward the FIA. The tifosi or the people out there believe the safety car could have been ended before and give still a couple of laps for the show, for battles on track." That didn't happen and within Formula 1 there are different opinions about it. This will undoubtedly be discussed in the future.
