On this day 22 years ago, June 2nd 1996, Michael Schumacher won his first ever race for Ferrari, as Schumi won the Spanish Grand Prix in the pouring rain.
Schumacher showed why he was called the rain master, as he absolutely dominated on the Circuit de Catalunya, winning with a 45-second gap with the number two.
He made the switch from Benetton to Ferrari in 1996, even though Ferrari wasn't doing well at all at the time. Still, Schumacher managed to get three podium finishes in the first six races, before heading to Barcelona.
The rain was pouring down, which was going to mean one thing; Schumacher was going to put in a hell of a shift. He started from third, behind Jacques Villeneuve and Damon Hill. That lead didn't last long, however, as Hill spun out twice before retiring from the race. Villeneuve also lost a lot of places.
Schumacher took the lead, and then some. Every lap, his lead grew by multiple seconds, and eventually, he finished over 45 seconds in front of the rest of the field. The rain master.
