'Red Bull Racing does have a lighter chassis ready at the factory'

Red Bull Racing has denied that the team is planning a major update to make its chassis four kilos lighter. According to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com, the lighter chassis does exist, but the team is delaying the introduction of the major update for now.

It is no secret that the Red Bull car has had problems with overweight this season. During the Dutch Grand Prix, rumours surfaced that Red Bull would soon introduce a lighter chassis that would make the car four kilos lighter. Christian Horner denied the reports; the team would have nothing planned in the short term and the lighter chassis would not exist.

Red Bull has lighter chassis

According to Motorsport Italy, the lighter chassis does exist, as Red Bull were to have carried out a crash test at the Cranfield Impact Center before the summer break in order to apply for FIA homologation. It was first thought that this was a chassis for next year, but the homologation sessions have not yet started for 2023.

There is said to be another team besides Red Bull that wants to introduce a lighter chassis, but it is not known which one. In any case, the Italian medium believes that the update will remain in Milton Keynes for the time being out of fear for controversy over the budget cap. According to Mattia Binotto, Ferrari would never be able to introduce a lighter chassis at this point in the season because of the budget cap. It could also be that Max Verstappen's team has decided to keep the big update in reserve, as the Dutchman is currently unbeatable. In any case, the update will not be introduced for the Singapore Grand Prix.
