Marko doesn't expect more grid penalties for Verstappen: 'Should be enough'

Max Verstappen dominated Friday's session at Spa-Francorchamps by more than eight tenths away from Charles Leclerc in the second free practice session. Helmut Marko is delighted with his driver's performance but warns that the lead is likely to be less on Saturday.

Marko praised Verstappen's performance on the first day of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. "In sector two he was in a class of his own," the Austrian is quoted by Motorsport-Magazin.com. However, he warns that FP2 may have given a somewhat distorted picture for the rest of the weekend. "I don't think the lead will be that big tomorrow," he adds.

No more grid penalties for Verstappen

Verstappen has to start the Belgian GP from the last row of the grid, together with Leclerc. Marko reckons this will be it for the rest of the season. "In theory that should be enough," the Red Bull advisor notes.

Perez had a less successful day, falling short of P10 in the second free practice session after initially keeping up well with his teammate. "He had a little problem," explains Marko. Once the Mexican was in the pits it started to rain and he was unable to improve his time.
