Update | Only a few seats remain free on the 2023 Formula 1 grid

Williams have confirmed that Alex Albon will race for Williams in 2023 and beyond. That fills another seat and leaves just a handful of places available.

The summer break provides the opportunity for teams and drivers to relax and push the reset button. However, the first week of the break in 2023 has already been very busy. On Wednesday, Albon and Williams announced a new contract. But that was the most straightforward of pieces of news.

On Monday morning, Aston Martin announced that Fernando Alonso would replace the retiring Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard would therefore leave his seat free alongside Esteban Ocon. In a rush to fill it, Alpine then announced Oscar Piastri would fill that seat. But that announcement was news to Piastri himself who said he will not drive for Alpine in 2023. It's now a bit of a mystery.

Elsewhere, Nicholas Latifi seems to be another one of the drivers set to leave Formula 1. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but there are rumours of replacements including Nyck De Vries. Piastri has also been mentioned in the list of names to replace Latifi. It seems likely that Guanyu Zhou will have his contract renewed at Alfa Romeo.

Mick Schumacher and Yuki Tsunoda are in an uncertain position and will have to work hard after the summer break to confirm their Formula 1 futures. Daniel Ricciardo will also need to find improvements at McLaren, but rumours suggest it is his decision on whether he stays or leaves.
