Junior driver Logan Sargeant will take place in Nicholas Latifi's Williams during the first free practice session for the United States Grand Prix. It will be a special experience for the young driver as he gets to drive the Williams car on his home track.

Every Formula One driver this season is obliged to give up his seat to a young driver during a practice session. Sargeant is the second and final junior driver to sit in the Williams seat, with Nyck de Vries having been given the chance to drive Alexander Albon's car earlier in the season.

Sargeant has had an impressive start to his Formula 2 season. The American driver has already taken two wins and two podiums and is currently third in the standings. According to rumours, Latifi's seat is in danger at Williams. De Vries and Sargeant are rumoured to be in contention for the seat, but the American driver is likely to drive another season in F2.

Williams rewards Sargeant for his performance

“I’m super excited to be given this opportunity to drive my first Free Practice in Austin. To be given the chance at the US Grand Prix is something extremely special to me. A massive thank you to Williams for putting the trust and belief in me to do a good job. The goal for me will be to learn as much as possible in the new generation of cars. I’m looking forward to making the most of this experience and really enjoying it", Sargeant says in Williams' press release.

Sven Smeets, Williams' Sporting Director, comments: "Logan has demonstrated a great level of ability and maturity so far this season through his accomplishments both on and off the track. He’s delivered race winning performances in Formula 2 matched by his hard work during simulator sessions. It felt only right to reward these achievements with the opportunity for him to take part in a Free Practice session at Austin. We’re looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel of the FW44 and seeing how his performance and feedback help the team’s preparations for the race in Austin.”
