Verstappen won't back down: 'We want to secure that'

In Hungary, Max Verstappen crossed the finish line first for the eighth time in 2022. The record of victories in one season is shared by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who scored 13 victories in 2004 and 2013. Verstappen does not want to think about this just yet.

Verstappen has managed to win eight of the 13 races run in 2022. During the FIA Press Conference Verstappen was asked if it is realistic to win at least five more, to match the record of Schumacher and Vettel.

Verstappen not busy with records

"We’ll of course try to win as many as we can in the remaining races we have. But of course, more importantly, we have to keep the lead in the Championship. That's, of course, what we have to try and secure," Verstappen replied to the question.

The Dutchman's lead has increased to a total of 80 points over number two Charles Leclerc. This means Verstappen will have to take fewer risks in the races after the summer break. However, the Red Bull Racing driver does not want to think about this. "Overall, of course, it's good, but we just keep on working, keep on trying to improve things."
