Sebastian Vettel seems to have broken his silence on social media. For years, the German has been known as the only Formula One driver not to have an online presence, but this afternoon the driver is likely to make his first announcement.

Vettel has repeatedly said he is not a fan of social media. The Aston Martin driver doesn't think he needs a social media account, preferring to take action rather than to post messages online.

Now, however, he seems to have changed his mind, as fans found out this morning that the F1 driver has created an account on Instagram. Vettel has already amassed over three hundred thousand followers, and that without his first official post. Brother Fabian Vettel has announced on Instagram that a first announcement will be made on the account at 11:00 UK time.

Vettel announcement

Online, fans are already speculating what Vettel might announce on his first online account. His bio reads: "There is still a race to win." That quote could be an indication that the German will use his Instagram for his activist campaigns, something Vettel is very passionate about. However, there are also fans who believe that the driver will announce his retirement. There have been rumours for some time that the Aston Martin driver will leave F1 after 2021. However, earlier this month Vettel announced that he has the intention to continue for at least one more year. Who knows, he might announce his contract extension himself.
