Sainz also without water during French GP: 'Ferrari was too heavy'

Lewis Hamilton made no secret of the fact that he could not drink during the sweltering French Grand Prix. However, he was not the only driver who was dehydrated afterwards: Carlos Sainz did not drink a drop of water either, with the difference that the Spaniard chose to do so himself.

Sainz made an impressive comeback from the last row of the grid and was even on the podium, but a late pit stop prevented him from doing so. Despite this, the Spaniard's fifth place was a good result, especially given the five-second time penalty for an unsafe release.

Sainz did not take the water bottle to save weight

On top of this, the Ferrari driver completed the race in the blistering heat of Le Castellet without drinking a drop of water. When Sky Sports confronted him with the problems with Lewis Hamilton's water bottle, the Spaniard had to laugh a little. He made the choice not to bring his bottle on board in an attempt to save some weight.

"The Ferrari was too heavy, so I gave up the water bottle," Sainz explains. This despite the extreme heat at Circuit Paul Ricard. "In the end I don't sweat much and I'd rather have that tenth less per lap," he adds. The Spaniard is certainly not lacking in dedication.
