The FIA plans to introduce a number of rule changes for the 2023 Formula One season to further remedy porpoising. However, as many as six F1 teams objected to the changes on the grounds that they were mainly designed to help Mercedes. Christian Horner complained about Toto Wolff's lobbying behaviour, but the latter does not take the complaint seriously.

Whereas almost all teams found a solution to porpoising during the season, it took Mercedes much longer and they say they are still not completely rid of it. For that reason, the German racing team would like to see more rule changes, on top of those already made after the summer break.

Wolff therefore believes this is the perfect time to do something about the bouncing cars, although the problem mainly affects his own team. "Clearly when you're running in the front you just want to just make sure that nothing changes," the Austrian told Autosport.com. He adds that the opposite is true for those who are not at the front.

Wolff laughs off Horner's criticism

The Austrian is laughing off Horner's criticism. The Red Bull Racing team boss believes Mercedes is lobbying the FIA hard to gain a competitive advantage through rule changes, but Wolff does not take his rival's criticism seriously. "I think he's just bored at the front. So good for him," he continues. According to Wolff, working with the FIA is part of the deal. The Mercedes team boss argues that everyone ultimately belongs to the same circus and that Horner himself is just as much a lobbyist.
