Red Bull hired psychologist: 'Just don't know if it's working yet'

Yuki Tsunoda's seat appears to be under slight pressure according to rumours. Red Bull team advisor Helmut Marko is impressed with the Japanese driver's speed, but the Alpha Tauri driver has yet to get his anger management under control. Tsunoda responds to the media about the appointment of his new psychologist.

Problem child Tsunoda 'under treatment'

Marko indicated two weeks ago that Tsunoda had been assigned a psychologist. The Japanese driver was called the problem child of the Red Bull team by the team advisor. Tsunoda would get too frustrated by mistakes and would therefore limit his own speed. Tsunoda has now driven four races since the psychologist was appointed. After his crash with Pierre Gasly at Silverstone, the driver himself is not entirely convinced that it is doing its job.

Autosport.com Quoting Tsunoda: "I don't know if it's working right now or not. If it was working, I probably wouldn't have had that crash." The Japanese driver thinks he and the psychologist need to give each other more time to get to know each other. Tsunoda does admit that he can sometimes be a hothead in the car. He gets, as it were, 'overheated in the head'.

Tsunoda worked with psychologist before

In the world of racing, it is not particularly noticeable that drivers work with psychologists, especially not at the highest level. When Tsunoda was racing in F2 he also worked with a psychologist who helped him a lot. The most important thing the psychologist brought him back then was consistency throughout the season: "He was partly responsible for my step up to F1," the Red Bull team member said.
