Andreas Seidl looks back positively on the season so far for McLaren. The fact that the Woking-based team is now in P4 in the Constructors' Championship is the maximum they can achieve at the moment.

For McLaren, the season started difficultly with brake problems during the winter tests and Daniel Ricciardo suffering from a coronavirus infection. After disappointing results at the opening race in Bahrain, the team was able to score points again in Jeddah. McLaren then had strong weekends in Melbourne, managed a podium in Imola and the car was given a good upgrade in Barcelona. That upgrade also helped to get a good result in Monaco. During qualifying, McLaren also partly managed to be at least on par with a Mercedes, or to beat one or both.

Seidl is realistic

Speaking to Motorsport-total.com the German said,"It's definitely positive that after ten races we are fourth in the constructors' championship. Because I think if you are realistic, that is the maximum that we can achieve as a team at the moment."

Seidl says a fourth place at the end of the season would be another success when compared to which teams they are competing for that spot such as Alpine and Alfa Romeo who are doing well with their own infrastructure such as the wind tunnel. Seidl mentions that the team is working on it, but that it's taking some time.

Focus on second half of season

The McLaren team boss says they now want to focus fully on putting in a good performance in the second half of the season and that it also has to be the condition for the team to keep this fourth place.

Seidl also hopes that they can simply bring more consistency to the results and get to understand the car even better to be able to use the car in the race weekends so that they can be the fourth strongest team at all circuits.
