Mick Schumacher admits there was tension between him and team principal Guenther Steiner when he failed to score points for Haas. The German understands his team's frustrations, but fortunately his recent performances give him confidence.

Schumacher scored points for the first time in his Formula One career at the British Grand Prix after finishing eighth. The German was able to continue this in Austria with sixth place.

His excellent performance came at the right time, as Schumacher was put under pressure by team boss Steiner. "There was tension, but that’s normal. We all want to score points and I think that’s part of the frustration and I understand that", he tells Channel 4.

Schumacher rises in championship

"And obviously places like Jeddah where the car was broken, is something quite expensive to us and therefore I do understand that, but it is also something that motivates us. And I wouldn’t say it tears us apart but it actually bonds us closer together and makes us try to score more points", continues the 23-year-old.

Schumacher cost Haas dearly after his huge crash during qualifying for the Saudi Grand Prix and the accident at the Monaco race. The Haas driver has now climbed to fifteenth place in the drivers' championship. In the last two races he battled it out with the likes of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. In Austria he was voted Driver of the Day by the fans.
