George Russell crashed out in Q3 today but managed to still hold onto his fifth position, but is worried as to whether or not the car will be ready in time for the race. However, if it is ready, Russell believes that a strong race will be on the cards after the pace that was seen earlier today.

"We ordinarily have better race pace than we do qualifying pace," he told Sky Sports after his crash, "we’re definitely there in the fight. As a team, probably our best qualifying of the year in terms of pace, but probably the worst in terms of outcome."

Russell needs a strong race this weekend

After a continuous run of top-five finishes in every race this season, the Brit was involved in the lap one crash at Silverstone, and admits that he needs to refind his form, stating, "I’m personally going through a tricky couple of races at the moment but we’ve got tomorrow to make up for it."

"We know that we’ve brought some things to the car, we know that Ferrari and Red Bull were probably pushing the boundaries with the planks a bit more than the interpretation and probably these things coming together has come in our favour."

Will Mercedes have the car ready in time?

When questioned about how he felt after the incident, Russell made it clear that he was okay but didn't want to get ahead of himself regarding the race and was concerned about whether the car will be ready and what set-up to use. He finished with: "I’m not getting carried away, Lewis was doing a phenomenal job, he was absolutely flying today. I think I probably went the wrong way with the set-up for qualifying but maybe in a good place for the race. I feel okay physically, I’m just a bit concerned about the car and if we can recover it."
