Toto Wolff experienced a disappointing race in Monaco with Mercedes. With a fifth and eighth place for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton respectively, it was once again painfully revealed that the German racing stable is still far from there with the developments of the car. However, the team boss was not just critical of his own team.

"That was the usual chaotic race in Monaco," Wolff concludes in Mercedes' press release. "And once again, a lesson that we need to look at this circuit layout, so people can't drive round five seconds off the pace in a procession. This is a fantastic venue and spectacle - but it would be great if the racing could be at the same level."

The weather conditions still made the race exciting, although it was on the long side, according to Wolff. "With the length of the race, and the delays and interruptions, it felt more like an NFL game than a Grand Prix - but I'm not sure that much else could have been done."

Mercedes balks at final result in Monaco

Andrew Shovlin was also very disappointed with the final result. The Mercedes chief hoped for a strong performance in the run-up to the weekend, but concluded that the Germans still have a lot of work ahead of them.
