Carlos Sainz has had some bad luck in his first four Grands Prix of the season. After a strong start in which he scored podium finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, he experienced two crashes in the following races. In the Miami Grand Prix, he will start from the front row and according to the Spaniard, this is a sign of improvement.

In Imola, he crashed with Daniel Ricciardo through no fault of his own, but beyond that, the Ferrari driver has made mistakes of his own. This included the start of the Australian Grand Prix, where he spun off the track.

Sainz will not change his approach to the start

So it went wrong twice in a row at the start, but Sainz sees no reason to take a different approach to his starts. "No, I think last few starts have been good," he explained during the press conference post-qualifying session. "So I will approach to start with optimism."

What concerns him more is the fact that he did not drive long runs because of his crash in FP2. "This is what is in the back of my head, going into tomorrow," Sainz continued, adding that he has a lot of homework ahead of him.

Despite his crash on Friday, by the way, he does feel progress. "The fact that I was out there today doing some purple sectors is a good sign and it means that in some corners I’m starting to understand the car and starting to drive it the way it should be driven," Sainz said.
