The FIA has made minor adjustments to the planned DRS zones even before the start of the race weekend in Miami. It involves relocation of the detection zones for all three DRS sections.

Better placed DRS detection points?

The circuit for the Miami Grand Prix once again features three DRS zones. At the previous race in Imola, four were initially planned, but were reduced to three last minute. Now the FIA is a lot earlier with changes to the DRS. Fortunately, the changes are only minor and not very drastic. Indeed, at first glance, the detection points seemed to be located in favorable spots.

Unlike many other circuits, the detection points in Miami are located just after the sharp corners. In Saudi Arabia, it was a different story. There was a detection point just before the last hairpin resulting in a unique battle under braking between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. With the changes to the Miami circuit, the detection points will remain after the sharp corners, so drivers will always have to fight for their DRS or fight to keep someone out of the DRS.

Modifications to the Miami circuit

The DRS in sector 1 can be opened 37 meters earlier. The fact that the detection point is placed earlier after turn 8 has helped seven meters. In Sector 2, the detection point after Turn 16 on the main straight has been moved forward three meters. Finally, in sector 3, the detection point at turn 17 has also been moved forward, but by four meters.
