Immediately after the sidelining of Nikita Mazepin, Haas recorded that Pietro Fittipaldi was a leading candidate to get the seat. In the end, the team chose Kevin Magnussen after all, to the Brazilian's disappointment.

Very Near

Twice in 2020, Fittipaldi was allowed to drive a Grand Prix as a substitute. So for the time being, that's all, although the Brazilian is still a test and reserve driver for the American team. "As a driver, of course, I was disappointed because it was very close," says the grandson of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi in conversation with the French AutoHebdo. "I understand the team's decision, but I also know what they could have achieved together."

Fittipaldi refers to the, in his eyes, good tests and training sessions he has had for Haas in the meantime. Moreover, the Brazilian expects to have had a lot of support from the Brazilian fans and those from America. After all, Fittipaldi was born in Miami, the very place where a Grand Prix will be held for the first time soon.

Endurance

This season Fittipaldi will be competing in the ELMS. This endurance class starts Sunday in France. Later this year Fittipaldi will also be active in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He has not yet given up the dream of eventually racing in Formula 1. "I wouldn't say the chapter is closed," he said.
