AlphaTauri has made a mediocre start to the 2022 season. Pierre Gasly retired in Bahrain after his car caught fire, while Yuki Tsunoda could not even start the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix after his car stalled during the installation lap. Gasly did manage to cross the finish line, but he struggled with a completely different problem during the race.

Gasly scored his first points of the season at the Jeddah circuit after his retirement in Bahrain. The Frenchman crossed the finish line in eighth place, but it was not easy. Gasly doesn't know what exactly was wrong with him, but he suffered from terrible intestinal pain during the race.

"I don’t know what’s happened with my intestine, but I was dying inside the car. I was screaming because of pain and just happy the race is done, and we managed to secure P8", the AlphaTauri driver is quoted by The Race.

Gasly in a lot of pain

Never before in his career has Gasly experienced such pain. He continues: "I feel like every left turn someone was stabbing me on the inside, on my intestine, so it was not nice”. It is therefore a miracle that the Frenchman managed to finish the race with an eighth place, as the Jeddah circuit is the fastest street circuit on the calendar and therefore demands a lot from the drivers.
