Mercedes had a difficult time at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The team didn't seem to be able to count on a podium until Red Bull Racing suddenly experienced engine problems and Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez retired. It caused relief for Toto Wolff.

Whereas in recent years the German racing team has been used to fighting for the front positions, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were not at all able to match the pace of the competition. Hamilton managed to hold on to fifth place, while Russell was right behind him.

At the end of the race, however, something dramatic happened at Red Bull. Namely, Verstappen loss a lot of power, so he could do nothing but park his car in. Moments later, Perez apparently faced the same problems and also had to drop out. As a result, the field moved up and Hamilton took third place.

"I don't know what happened with Max's car and also with Perez, but it seemed that he got stuck," Wolff stated in conversation with Sky Sports. "I think at the moment we are five and six and we are trying to regain ground, but it won't happen overnight."
