Nicholas Latifi is going to turn his experiences with hate messages and online harassment into something positive. The Canadian announced that he will become an ambassador for the Cybersmile Foundation that seeks to build a safer, more positive digital community.

Latifi threatened after crash in Abu Dhabi

After his crash in Abu Dhabi, Latifi became the victim of hate messages and even serious threats against him. The safety car after the crash gave Max Verstappen the chance to keep Lewis Hamilton from the title. Verstappen seized this opportunity with both hands and became world champion for the first time.

"I used the winter break to find out more about the extent of the problem and to think of a way to turn my own experiences after Abu Dhabi into a positive," Latifi says on his website about his promise to contribute in some way to the fight against online abuse and harassment.

Ambassador of the Cybersmile Foundation

Latifi eventually joined the U.S.-based and U.K.-based Cybersmile Foundation. "I am happy to share that I have joined hands with Cybersmile to support their valuable work and help get their messages across to international fans of Formula One."

Latifi sees that many people who face cyberbullying and online abuse do not know how to deal with the situation and how to regain control. "For me, that's something that needs to change. I'm determined to do what I can to help."
