Following the
Haas F1 team,
Formula 2 team Hitech has also cut ties with Russian company Uralkali, the team announced in a statement. The sponsorship agreement with the Russian fertilizer company will be terminated with immediate effect.
Hitech saddened by Russian invasion
"Hitech Grand Prix has chosen to terminate its sponsorship agreement with Uralkali with immediate effect," reads the team's statement. "Like the rest of the motorsport community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the ongoing conflict."
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, several measures have been taken within
Formula 1 against Russian parties. For example, Haas not only severed ties with sponsor Uralkali, but Russian driver Nikita Mazepin also had to leave the field. The
FIA broke cooperation with the promoter of the
Russian Grand Prix.
Cooperation Uralkali since 2016
Hitech and Uralkali have been working together since 2016 when Mazepin started driving for the team in
Formula 3. Moreover, Mazepin drove for the Hitech
Formula 2 team in 2020. All thanks to sponsorship money from the Russian company. Mazepin finished fifth in the F2 championship in 2020 and switched to
Formula 1 for Haas in 2021.
