Daniel Ricciardo looks back on his first meters in McLaren's MCL36 with satisfaction. The Australian is not shouting it from the rooftops yet, but in conversation with Formula1.com Ricciardo and McLaren it seems that the confidence is there.

Red Bull didn't show anything yet

Ricciardo could look back with satisfaction on the second day of testing in Barcelona. Lando Norris came into action during the first day of testing and managed a first time and more than a hundred laps. Ricciardo finished Thursday in third place with a 1.20.288 and drove 126 laps on his own. McLaren was thus the fourth team in number of laps.

"I think I speak for all the drivers, testing you just really don't know what everyone is doing. I don't look at the times much, but of course, it is nice to be more at the top than at the bottom. In any case, Red Bull and Mercedes haven't shown anything yet, so we'll see what happens when that opens more," says the eight-time race winner.

McLaren mainly looking out for themselves

''For now, the focus is mainly on ourselves. We have driven a lot of laps, the reliability is good and I feel comfortable in the car. I know our strengths and now try to work on the weaknesses with the setup," concludes the McLaren driver.

In the paddock, however, rumours are growing that McLaren and Ferrari are in a good position. After two days, McLaren already has 229 laps and the team is continuously at the top of the timesheets. On the track, the car also looks good and the famous porpoising is hardly visible on the MCL36. Ricciardo's big smile is therefore understandable.
