Yuki Tsunoda experienced an instructive first season in Formula 1. The Japanese driver experienced highlights at AlphaTauri but fell through the ice at least as often. This coming season, however, he has the goal of beating Pierre Gasly.

The Frenchman put in a very strong performance last year by finishing ninth in the World Championship. Gasly showed during qualifying and races to be a lot further ahead than Tsunoda, but the Japanese driver is not putting up with that. The 21-year-old driver hopes to score more points than his teammate in 2022.

"The coming season will be very important for me," Tsunoda realizes in conversation with Speedweek.com. "Of course I don't know yet how good the car is, but as a driver you have to perform well and beat your teammate. I know now what I need to improve and if I can do that, I can win from him."

Interest in Gasly due to good performance

If Gasly has another strong year, the French driver could be preparing for his final season at AlphaTauri. It is reported that not only Red Bull Racing is keeping him in mind, but other teams are also interested in him. The next few months should reveal where his future lies.
