David Castera is fervently hoping for Fernando Alonso to return to the Dakar Rally. The Spaniard participated in the iconic rally for the first time in 2020 and it pleased him very much. Unfortunately, it's remained a one-off participation due to his return to Formula 1 and preparations for it.

Castera, director of the Dakar Rally, hopes and thinks that he will be able to welcome Alonso back in a few years. How long he has to wait for it will depend on how long the two-time world champion remains active in Formula 1."With the youngsters coming... I don't know. I think there are possibilities for him to return to the Dakar. I saw that he already has his Dakar Toyota in his museum," he told Mundo Deportivo.

Castera himself has not speak to Alonso yet about the experienced of his first participation two years back, and it's something the Dakar chief regrets, because he would have liked to sit down with Alonso to exchange thoughts."It's a shame, because I would love to talk to him to get the feeling of someone like him, coming from a different motorsport world, to know what perception he had of this sport, which I think is interesting to keep a little thrill in it."

What will Alonso do after F1?

What ideas Alonso himself has about his future in racing are not entirely clear. He has indicated that he enjoyed his adventure in the Dakar immensely and that he was definitely considering coming back. For example, it could be combined nicely with long distance racing in the WEC or in the United States.
