The race committee had to deal with severe criticism from Red Bull Racing and Mercedes on several occasions this season. Both during the Grands Prix, and after the races Christian Horner and Toto Wolff didn't shy away from voicing their opinion. According to Helmut Marko this has to change soon.

The Red Bull advisor believes it should not be possible to call the race director to account for all decisions. The Austrian thinks that Michael Masi should have all the peace of mind he needs to make the right decisions as race director and therefore calls on the FIA to investigate whether it can change the rules in the coming months.

"I think team managers and team bosses should no longer be able to address Masi through a direct line during a race," Marko stated in conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport. "In addition, the rules should be simplified. Too many decisions have been made that we or Mercedes were not happy with. There needs to be more uniformity in the rulings."

Fierce battle between Mercedes and Red Bull

Where the regulations could be clearer, the discussions between the teams of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton last season seemed unavoidable. Mercedes and Red Bull were doing everything they could to win, which automatically put the drivers in the wrong on a number of occasions.
