Bernie Ecclestone and Frank Williams have a long history. Both were decisive faces in Formula 1 for decades. Ecclestone is also shocked about the death of the former team boss.

Contact

Speaking to the the English newspaper The Independent Ecclestone, now 91-years old, said on Sunday morning that he had contact with Claire Williams, Frank's daughter. “I spoke to Claire this morning. She was obviously upset. They called her yesterday to the hospital and said you ought to come and see him because he doesn't have long left with us. I asked if he suffered at all and she said 'no, he didn't'.”

According to Ecclestone, Frank Williams has left an important mark on Formula 1. “It is the end of an era. One wonders if people like Frank had not been around in the early days whether Formula One would have survived.”
