1993: Watch Ron Dennis try to lure Michael Schumacher to McLaren!
Watch legendary McLaren boss Ron Dennis try to lure then promising young talent Michael Schumacher from Benetton to McLaren after the 1993 season, as Dennis was still looking for a second driver after Ayrton Senna's departure to Williams for the 1994 season.
Let's set the scene for this video; Michael Schumacher had made his F1 debut in 1991 at Jordan before moving to Benetton a year later. He finished third in the championship that year, behind champion Nigel Mansell and Schumi's idol Ayrton Senna. 1993 came, the year Williams absolutely ran away with the title because of their 'active suspension' on the car which made it miles quicker than the rest of the field.
Schumacher finished fourth that year, and McLaren had an open seat for 1994 after Senna had left for Williams. The eccentric Dennis ran into Schumacher at a fashion event, and tried to convince the German to join the Woking-based team in a very subtle way!
