Nelson Piquet Jr believes Max Verstappen would not be so critical of the new regulations if he were driving a Mercedes.
"It is natural for him to complain in this situation, but if he were driving the Mercedes, he would be very quiet and would not be saying anything at all"

Speaking on the Pelas Pistas podcast, the four-time world champion’s brother-in-law said he believes Verstappen would not be so critical if he were in Russell or Antonelli’s position, adding that if asked which championship he preferred most, it would be the one he dominated the most.
"Max is like that. He wants to have the best car. If you asked him which championship he preferred - the one won at the final race or the one wrapped up five races early - he would pick the one secured with five races to spare. That is simply the way he is.
"It is natural for him to complain in this situation, but if he were driving the Mercedes, he would be very quiet and would not be saying anything at all. I am absolutely certain of that."

Steiner reveals two key hurdles to a Verstappen-Russell swap at Mercedes

According to the former Haas team principal, Verstappen would never leave Red Bull for a lower salary, and the gap between what the Dutchman currently earns and Russell’s contract would represent a major factor in any possible deal. The difference between the two salaries, he suggested, is significant enough to complicate the situation.
At the same time, Mercedes would also have to consider the sporting implications of letting Russell go. Although the Briton has yet to win a world championship, he has long been viewed as a future title contender, making the idea of replacing him a difficult decision for the team.
Steiner also suggested that Russell’s contract could include protections that would prevent Mercedes from parting ways with him if he were to win the world title, which would further complicate any scenario involving a potential swap.
