Charles Hamelin appears to be a big fan of Lewis Hamilton. The Canadian short tracker rode to his sixth Olympic medal in Beijing wearing a "Hamilton helmet" making him a shared record holder.
Hamelin is a celebrity in the short track world. The Canadian made his debut at the 2006 games and immediately won a silver medal with his country in the relay. In the four games that would follow he won four more golds and one bronze, equaling the record for number of medals.

Yet the icon of 37 years also appears to have an example. Especially for the Olympics in China Hamelin had a helmet made based on the purple design of Lewis Hamilton. The Canadian announced that he wanted to do a small tribute to his idol. With that helmet, he won the gold medal in the 5000m relay in 2022.

Hamilton came across this message and let himself be heard on Twitter. He really liked the helmet and congratulated the short tracker on his achievements in Beijing. Hamelin could not believe that his idol had responded and felt like a little kid. Speechless he was, while also encouraging him to win the eighth world title.
