Mercedes has only one point left on its lead over Red Bull Racing in the Constructors' Championship. In the drivers' standings Max Verstappen is 19 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton after Mexico. Mercedes will want to find positive momentum again in Brazil.

Victory for Hamilton never within reach

On the website of Mercedes Toto Wolff looks back on the Mexico Grand Prix. "It was definitely a weekend of damage limitation for us," the Mercedes team boss let us know. "Given the characteristics of the circuit we knew it would be a challenging weekend for us and it showed on Sunday. Victory was never within reach, but Lewis gave everything he had to hold on to that second place, in a car that probably should have finished third."

In the final stages of the race, Sergio Perez quickly approached Hamilton, but the Briton managed to hold on to his second place. "It was a strong piece of defensive driving from him, securing valuable points for both championships".

Gaining momentum back in Brazil

This weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix is already on the programme, the second race of the triple-header with Mexico and Qatar. "The best thing about a triple-header is that you don't have to wait long for another opportunity to get the positive momentum back. We are happy to return to Brazil, the fans are so passionate and Interlagos is such an iconic circuit."

Yet Mercedes will not find it easy here either. "In recent seasons it wasn't our strongest circuit and suited Red Bull more, but this year has shown that anything can happen. We will give everything we have."

Meanwhile, the battle in both championships is still completely open. "We are privileged to be in the fight so late in the season and expect these titles to be decided only in the final race, with both teams continuing to fight hard. We have some catching up to do and know it will be an intense battle, but we will continue to push hard and keep our eyes on the end goal."
