For Formula 1, the title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is the best thing that could happen. Finally, people are talking about the sport again and Stefano Domenicali hopes this will continue for as long as possible.

Excitement in Formula 1

Formula 1 has been labelled boring enough in recent years. After easy titles for Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull Racing in 2011 and 2013, it was then Mercedes that produced the best car by far. As a result, a real title battle between two teams was often lacking. In 2021 it will finally happen again and F1's CEO is only too happy about that.

''If you ask me, I really hope it goes the distance. Up to the last corner of Abu Dhabi, that would be fantastic. This is a possibility, I really hope so for everyone. What is behind that is an incredible fight between two incredible drivers. One who has achieved something no one else has'', says F1's top executive at Sky Sports.

Who will break Hamilton's records?

''For Max, he's fighting for the first title. Then we are connected to the teams being under pressure, no mistakes. Reliability will play a factor, what more do you want? I think for sure it will show the best driver, but also we don't forget the teams play a big role. That's the beauty.''

According to Domenicali, nice highs are being reached in the sport right now, but those records are also there to be broken again. ''I think that records like that [Hamilton's 100) will be beaten. I think there has been incredible respect for what Lewis was able to achieve. When Michael did it we all thought it'll be impossible. That's the beauty of the sport. I am sure Michael was a great reference for Lewis, and Lewis will be a reference for others'', concludes Domenicali.
