During the second free practice for the Russian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen finished in sixth place. Both Mercedes drivers were faster and he also had to leave Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly behind him.

During the training, Verstappen sounded frustrated on the board radio. The Dutchman said he didn't have enough top speed to overtake other drivers on the straight. At that moment he had a Williams driver in front of him. On ORF Helmut Marko tells about the problem with top speed.

"We still have to work on it," he confirms. "We tuned both cars differently, but the effect was not optimal in both cases. But qualifying is not relevant for us, so it's mainly about the race set-up." Indeed, during the second practice session, it was revealed that Verstappen will be picking up his fourth engine this weekend. As a result, he will start from the back of the grid on Sunday. Saturday's qualifying session is therefore no longer important for the Dutchman.

Possible rescheduling of qualifying

Marko assures that they have made the most important findings and have an idea for a definition set-up, in case there is no race tomorrow. According to the weather forecast, it's going to rain a lot, so qualifying might be moved to later in the evening. There's a very small chance that the session won't be driven at all, but in that case, Red Bull is happy with the current set-up.
