'In wet weather Verstappen has the advantage, in dry weather Mercedes'

It promises to be a battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton today. The weather will decide how the race will go and who has the advantage in the end. Peter Windsor gives another analysis of the qualifying on his YouTube channel.

"There is no doubt that Red Bull was showing lots of feel, lots of driveability and the Honda engine adding to that with lots of lowdown talk. Max looked fabulous, I gotta say, in sector two," Windsor began. "Red Bull didn’t get it exactly right for Max in Q2, cause as the track was really quick right at the end, Max was not out there hunting for a time. Luckily though, the time he did in the midfase of Q2 was enough to get him through to Q3."

According to Windsor, Verstappen will have the advantage in wet weather, but Hamilton will be strong in dry conditions. "So if it’s wet tomorrow, assuming Max gets to La Source okay, no one in front of him, no spray in front of him, a huge advantage in the wet."

"And if it’s dry, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will definitely have the edge in sector one and as we saw yesterday, possible in sector three. But in sector two it will be there for Max to take advantage of the Red Bull’s grip and balance and hopefully to extend his first stint," Windsor said.

Williams had better tyre management

He stresses that he is impressed with the driver and despite the P3, Hamilton is getting the most out of the car. "This is a driver that has won everything there is to win in motorsport and certainly in Formula One. He’s out there on the edge all the time. It’s so impressive to see. He was beaten in the end by that lap that George Russell put together, probably by Williams’ better tyre management."
