Although the qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix ended with pole position for Charles Leclerc, the possibility of a grid penalty for the Monegasque has attracted some attention; some of which is from Helmut Marko. In an interview, the Austrian foresees the Dutchman possibly taking over pole position from Leclerc.

"Theoretically [Leclerc] is on pole, but the way the damage looks, I can imagine that the chassis or the gearbox has to be changed," Marko argues in conversation with Servus TV.

The Austrian continued: "Then it would be a grid penalty. That's what the stewards have to look at now. I hope they will look at it properly."

"The way the rear wheel was positioned, the driveshaft ... We had that three years ago with Max, in the same corner." At the Grand Prix that followed, the Dutchman started from P20 due to a grid penalty. Despite this, he managed to finish ninth.

Verstappen waits it out

Verstappen is less resolute in his view of the situation than Marko. Against The Telegraph he said that he will wait it out from the comfort of his own home in Monaco. "I'm going home and then I'll hear it myself. I can't change anything," said Verstappen.
