Hamilton wants changes to Monaco Grand Prix: 'Not nice for the fans'
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton has won the Monaco Grand Prix three times already and states that this is a special event to win, but the Briton also has criticism. According to him, the race on Sunday is far too boring for the fans.
The Monaco Grand Prix was missed last year because of the coronavirus, but in previous years Monaco was a standard feature on the F1 calendar. It's considered the crown jewel of Formula 1, but it's mostly about the Saturday. Qualifying is great, but the race itself is usually a parade.
Hamilton wants a change
''We have had this format for years now. This is the best venue and the most beautiful place where we will be racing, but you know in advance that it won't be fun for the fans. Especially not with those one-stoppers and the long stints we do nowadays. I don't really know what the solution is. But I still hope we can look at the next generations and make this race more interesting for fans,'' says Hamilton according to Motorsport.com.
''As a racer, you also want to go to circuits where you can actually race. The start of this season has been great in that respect, with a lot of overtaking and a field that is closer together. But here you're going to see train driving on Sunday. The fans know in advance what to expect this weekend. But anyway, for some reason it's still interesting to watch'', concludes the seven-time world champion.
