Robert Doornbos has reviewed the qualification of Max Verstappen after the session. Despite the fact that there were few yellow flags, the session was very messy, according to the analyst.

Session was a mess

Verstappen reacted furiously on the radio, but according to Doornbos that is part of the Red Bull Racing driver's job. "He comes here to win and to take pole. But this was a messy session. Six tenths on mediums from Mercedes hurts, but on red it was also three tenths", Doornbos commented at Ziggo Sport. Doornbos thinks it could be due to problems with the balance.

The session was so messy because Verstappen was bothered by traffic during his fast lap. Lando Norris and Sebastian Vettel were in front of him and especially the latter was in his way. "In your fast lap that is of course dramatic", says Doornbos. The track already didn't have much grip and because Verstappen had the two cars in front of him he lost even more downforce.

Red Bull still has work to do

In Q2, both Red Bull drivers went out on mediums, but the speed didn't seem to be there during the session. Something Doornbos has concerns about. "There is still some work to be done at Red Bull to get that right tomorrow," he said.
