Formula 1 wants to try and make races more accessible for people with a smaller budget. The tickets for races are now often quite expensive, but that should change in 2025 if it is up to Formula 1 business director Yath Gangakumaran.

Gangakumaran tells this in conversation with Autosportinternational. He wants more diversity through her 'We Race As One' campaign and for that she is currently looking at ticket prices. Lower ticket prices would attract more audiences and special prices for regional audiences or even free tickets for those on a smaller budget would be part of it.

"We know it's expensive to go to an F1 race. Of course there is a difference between three days with hours of action on a track and ninety minutes of action on a football pitch, but the difference is too great. One of the goals for the future is to work with Grands Prix organizers to get more people from different backgrounds to the track. We will do that by giving discounts or even making tickets free. It will take time, especially with the still ongoing corona crisis. But it is one of our goals for 2025."

Formula 1 must also become more sustainable

Another goal Formula 1 has for the next five years is to become more sustainable. If possible, the sport must even become CO2 neutral. This starts with reducing the use of plastic, but goes much further than that.

"That's a big thing for this year. We're monitoring the paddock, and all the teams, the FIA and Pirelli are participating. At the tests in Bahrain you are already going to see differences, and from the GP of Spain onwards, for example, there are a lot less plastic bottles. We also want to try to see less plastic in the fan zones."

Formula 1 has big plans, but for now they don't affect the cars very much. The paddocks and other areas will be addressed first. After that they might look at what to do with the cars.
