Ricciardo on anti-racism actions on the grid: 'Really hope they will continue'

For Formula 1, 2020 was not only the year of the bubble and the revised calendar, but the fight for inclusivity in motorsport. Lewis Hamilton has always led the fight against racism and encouraged a more diverse sport, something fellow driver Daniel Ricciardo also wants to keep fighting for in the future, he said in an interview. 

The Australian driver, who will be racing for McLaren from March, stated in an interview that he is willing and motivated to continue the inclusive ambitions of Formula 1 into the next year. In reference to taking the knee pre-race, he said, as quoted by Motortsport.com: “I really hope they will continue. I think that if we really believe in it and defend it firmly, there is no reason to end it.”

Learning curve

The action, which was largely led by Lewis Hamilton, is seen by Ricciardo as a positive way to use his platform and make his voice heard, something he says he is increasingly recognising the importance of. “I am sure that I have learned and I want to continue learning. I hope to educate myself and educate others around me. If that means that we will maintain a posture similar to that of 2020, then, certainly.

"I think that's the point: build up courage. If you have a voice, make it heard. If it’s something you really believe in, I don’t see why not.”
