New F1 CEO wants to see changes: 'The sport must become exciting'

Formula 1 is constantly trying to be innovative. A new qualifying format was tried out a few years ago and the F1 management is still looking for ways to make the racing more exciting. In 2020, they had some challenges filling the calendar with new races. That experiment went extremely well and with a new CEO, F1 is ready to experiment more.
If it is up to F1's new boss Stefano Domenicali, we could see new forms of racing in 2021. Qualifying races on Saturday might make the whole weekend a lot more unpredictable and give more drivers a chance to win. Domenicali therefore knows what he wants to achieve with any qualifying race.
Making races exciting
"I think eighty per cent of the races in 2020 have been spectacular. However, we have also seen negative things. For much of the season one team was in charge and often only one driver won. You can organise more races, but it will still be the same," the new F1 CEO explained to Motorsport.com.
"If you look at the television and know that only six drivers have a chance of winning, then a whole championship is not even necessary. Then you often know after a few races that one driver has the best chance of winning the championship". Domenicali therefore wants to bring unpredictability into F1, through qualifying races. "We have to make Formula 1 exciting again," the Italian concluded.
