Formula 1 will officially run 23 races in 2020. The FIA announced this on Thursday. Formula 1 itself previously presented a calendar for 2021, but it has now also been approved by the FIA.

Since the arrival of Liberty Media, it soon became clear that the American owners wanted a larger calendar. The 19-21 races that were run until then were fine, but Liberty wanted more. This was actually already the plan for 2020 with an expansion to 22 races, but due to the coronavirus, the calendar had to be rearranged.

FIA confirms F1 calendar

In 2021 the plan will be continued, with a calendar of 23 races. Formula 1 presented this calendar before, but now the FIA has also officially announced this calendar. One race is still missing on that calendar. The Vietnam Grand Prix still leaves a gap in April.

So there is still one race to be found for that month, to complete the calendar of 23. On that calendar is again the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, but this time in September. In addition, the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia is the latest addition to the calendar, with a street race in Jeddah.
