With the departure of Honda, Renault and Red Bull Racing may find themselves in a situation where they have to start working together again. This is not ideal for both parties, but Renault do not care about the Alpine strategy.

Renault continues to focus on Alpine

From 2021 onwards, the Renault team will be known as Alpine. It will become the new brand name of the Formula 1 team, which hopes to compete for the world title in 2022. However, if Renault has to supply engines to Red Bull again, could that be an obstacle for the development of their own team?

''No third party will have an impact on our strategy. It is clear, because we are here for our factory team. We've seen that you get very little benefit if you're just an engine supplier in F1 and maybe Honda's news is proof of that too,'' said Cyril Abiteboul to Motorsport.com.

Red Bull takes over

''We found out for ourselves in 2014 when we decided to return with a full team and maybe Honda had the same question. If we have to meet certain obligations we will do so, but everything we do has to revolve around the strategic goal of winning races in favour of building the Alpine brand."

However, there are noises that Red Bull wants to take over the engine from Honda itself. ''I'm sure there have been a number of test balloons like that. Someone who has to start from scratch in 2022 won't be ready in time, that's perfectly clear,'' Abiteboul concluded.
