Max Verstappen was a few tenths short of the Mercedes duo during the final phase of qualifying around the Mugello circuit. According to the Dutchman, it could have been a bit better.
“Somehow my first run in Q3 was not quite perfect. I was too far from the cars in front of me so I didn't really have a slipstream. As a result, there was not much left in it," a realistic Verstappen tells Ziggo Sport. "It was a pity that this first lap did not come to the fore because the conditions deteriorated afterwards."

The wind caused trouble for Verstappen in Q3

“The second lap itself was better, but the track wasn't. The wind picked up then. You drive slower on the straights and at certain parts, you notice that the car breaks out a bit more. I could still improve my time a bit, so that's a bit of a shame. It wouldn't have resulted in a position, of course, but otherwise, we could have been a bit closer. ”
“I think it is generally positive this weekend. I think everyone was quite happy with the red tyre [in Q2]. If we have a good start, let's start with that. Then we'll see what happens. ”
