Wolff turns after conversation with Carey: "Happy with positive outcome"

Last week, all teams signed the new Concorde Treaty. Also Mercedes, which for a long time openly complained about its content. In the end, Liberty Media managed to convince the manufacturer after all. Although according to team boss Toto Wolff, that wasn't such a surprise at all.

"We have always said that we wanted to stay in F1, so the agreement wasn't necessarily all that surprising," Wolff said. "But we're happy that we could bring the negotiations to a positive conclusion."

Carey was decisive

Mercedes stopped the boat for a long time before it was ready to sign the new Concorde Treaty. This would disproportionately harm Mercedes. After a 'constructive' conversation with Chase Carey, however, this changed.

"We are committed to our sport and we're looking forward to the upcoming years which will see the biggest transition F1 has ever seen. This will reward agile, open-minded teams who can adapt successfully to the demands of the new rules", said Wolff to Autosport.com prior to the Belgian Grand Prix.
