The qualifiying mode will be prohibited. This seems to be a big advantage for several Formula 1 teams. And maybe the engine will have to change drastically because of this loss. However, according to Renault's engine technical director Remi Taffin, the ban on qualifying mode won't be a big challenge for the teams.

According to Taffin, the abolition of qualifying mode will be much bigger than it actually is: "It's the same job, only a different distribution. We have less power in qualifying and now more power in the race. So it's a new consideration. We understand the concerns of the FIA and we will work with them to realize their request (abolish the 'party-mode')".

Renault and its engine

Renault is one of the teams with a qualifying mode. Taffin thinks the French team's power source is performing very well this year: "After six races the engine is behaving as expected," Taffin said to Motorsportweek.com. "The performance is there and, of course, it's all about getting the best out of it. The midfield is very close together: it's a matter of milliseconds to get into Q3. We can't miss a millisecond, and that's work for our racing team. The work at the factory so far has been good with good reliability and performance."
