Max Verstappen beat Mercedes at Silverstone. During the second British GP happened what seemed impossible this season. The dominant Mercedes cars of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were beaten by the Red Bull Racing car of Verstappen. In Spain Verstappen couldn't do it again.

Verstappen no chance in Barcelona

"A week later you wonder if he can repeat that trick", Robert Doornbos kicks off in his Ziggo column. "It's hot in Barcelona. Of course you're there now at a different time than usual in May. That makes a big difference when it comes to temperature. That's why Mercedes, Verstappen, pushed in that favourites role; 'We keep an eye on that RB with our tyre wear and that temperature'.

"In the end, nothing even came close to this analysis. Max realized very well, although at first he tried to follow Lewis, that he had no chance".

Gift from Bottas was the whole race

"The present at the start he got from Valtteri Bottas, he immediately took it and that was the race for him," the analyst continues.  "P2 was the maximum he could do. Verstappen just didn't have an answer to Lewis' pace. Because Lewis just found something."

In contrast to the previous race, Hamilton had its tyres well under control in Barcelona. So the Brit found something: "Not so much on the car, but more in his own driving style. He steered in a way that gave him better control of his tyres".
